Where do eggs come from?

'Mummy we get milk from cows' Heather announces.
'Yes' I say pleased.
'Mummy, we get eggs from chicken, don't we?'
'Yes' I agree, that's right.
Pleased that she was on a roll she continues - 'They do a poo and the egg comes out and we eat it.'
Not wanting to have to explain the finer techniques of egg laying I agree with her.
'Mummy,' she says after a pause 'Why doesn't an egg come out when I do a poo?'
At this point I gave up! Answers on a postcard...

I think I'd say, "Because you're not a chicken" and then make use of the pooh confusion to emphasise why it's so important to wash your hands before you eat... But I guess that's me chickening out from confronting the issue...

Hello, just stumbled on your blog from, oh goodness knows where (!) and thought this egg tale was fantastic. My son once quizzed me about our neighbour who was due to give birth and he was asking if the baby would come out of her 'front bottom'. Cringe. I said yes to which he replied "cause if it came out of her back bottom it would be all covered in poo wouldn't it!"

Hi Tara and welcome, kids do say the funniest things. I have printed some of my posts and kept in the baby books, they'll probably hate me!

Thanks for the advice Leigh, I should just have backed away and left it there!
